Last days, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia welcomed fifty students from the Knit Design course at the Polytechnic University of Milan.
The day began with a tour of the facility, during which students had the opportunity to discover ZBLB’s yarn production processes. Following this, they were led into a classroom where they could delve deeper into the company’s mission and vision, the story behind its production, and the combed yarn production cycle “from sheep to jumper.” This journey allowed them to analyze the various techniques and stages involved in creating fabrics, starting from raw materials.
A final focus on sustainability concluded the experience, illustrating to future designers how it is possible to guarantee end customers products made with sustainable materials. This is achieved through transparent internal traceability and stringent supply chain control, making the ZBLB facility a cornerstone in the production of high-quality yarns.
Experiences like these are invaluable for students, as they allow them to gain a deep understanding of the dedication and passion the company puts into producing its yarns. Working in the knitwear sector requires a combination of creative and design skills, along with strong technical knowledge. It is unthinkable to design or produce a knit garment without a profound understanding of the materials and machinery used.
The industrial knitwear sector is a constantly evolving field that demands specific knowledge of the product and yarn characteristics adaptable to market needs. It is essential for the new generations of knitwear experts to understand the mechanisms that bring a garment to life, to find and apply innovative solutions in harmony with the planet and human values, while preserving the tradition that has always accompanied knitwear production.
“It’s essential for Knitwear Design students to visit places of excellence where the materials that will shape their ideas are born. The visit to Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia is a journey upstream of the supply chain, offering new perspectives on tradition, innovation, manufacturing techniques, and the commitment to sustainability,” shared the PhD Motta from the Polytechnic University of Milan.
With this encounter, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia reaffirms itself as a reference point for new generations, recognizing that they will carry on the work, ensuring a sustainable world for future generations.
