Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia celebrates its 175th anniversary with a commemorative stamp

In the past few days, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia reached an important milestone: 175 years of Italian excellence.
To mark the occasion, a commemorative stamp was issued as part of the thematic series “Excellences of the Production System and Made in Italy”, focusing on the textile sector.

The ceremony took place on April 4 in Rome, at the Salone degli Arazzi of the Ministry of Enterprises, as part of the initiatives dedicated to celebrating the country’s manufacturing excellence.

Representing the company were President Alfredo Botto Poala and CEO Lorenzo Piacentini, who attended the event alongside senior government officials.

This stamp embodies a legacy built over the years, which has helped make ZBLB a hallmark of the Italian textile industry: the iconic spool of wool yarn in “Baruffa red,” which made the brand famous worldwide; the stylized “B” of Baruffa, also featured in the company logo and now an undisputed emblem of quality and sophistication in yarns; the circular shape of the logo, purposefully chosen to represent continuous research into future style trends.

175 YEARS OF HISTORY TOLD THROUGH A STAMP

The textile company Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia was founded in 1850 on the banks of the Sesia River by brothers Alessandro and Carlo Antongini—two young men from a Milanese family that helped finance the Expedition of the Thousand to support Italy’s unification.

By harnessing the water from the nearby river, they were able to produce a yarn that would go on to define ZBLB’s identity: the finest 100% merino wool yarn, pure or blended with noble fibers such as cashmere or silk, created for premium knitwear producers and top fashion houses, and available in a palette of over 30,000 colors.

As the brand’s claim states, “Spinning Trends – since 1850, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia was shaping Italian craftsmanship even before the country itself was united—thanks to the experience and knowledge accumulated over generations.

By anticipating fashion challenges and trends, the company has consistently enhanced its centuries-old wool manufacturing savoir-faire, without ever compromising on the excellence of its products or services.
