Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia at Fuorisalone 2025: textile innovation at the service of sustainable architecture with Cashwool®

From April 7 to 13, 2025, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia will be at Fuorisalone in Milan, at Viale Monza 91, with Cashwool® yarn within the Actuated Knit//Textilemorphosis installation. An opportunity to showcase how technique, aesthetics, and sustainability can perfectly merge and explore how high-quality yarns can transform spaces into more sustainable and high-performance environments, contributing to the well-being of people.

Within the exhibition space, ten projects developed by TextilesHUB of the Politecnico di Milano will be presented. This hub brings together researchers, producers, and designers to develop new systems based on fabrics and fibrous materials, applicable also in architecture. The installation leads to a critical reflection on the difficulties of adapting buildings to environmental and social changes, exploring the use of ultralight fabrics and advanced technologies.

Buildings are therefore conceived as a “third skin” — light, protective, and high-performance — that enhances the well-being and health of the environment.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to directly interact with the material samples, testing their tactile sensation, engaging the public in a sensory experience that highlights the qualities of the fabrics on display.

Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia’s choice to use Cashwool® was motivated by the superior quality of this natural wool material, soft to the touch, but durable, versatile and elastic. This is made possible by the three-dimensional processing of the yarn, made with links stitches (a combination of knit and purl stitches), which perfectly meets architectural needs, avoiding the use of synthetic fibers while combining sustainability and functionality.

ZBLB is no stranger to this type of initiative. In fact, it was one of the first companies to integrate environmental responsibility into its strategic plan, publishing its first sustainability report in 2018. The awareness of the need for a change in the human-nature interaction led the company to develop an eco-friendly strategy, focusing on quality, innovation, supply chain traceability, and operations that respect the environment, people, and the territory. This commitment translates into a reduction of water consumption, CO2 emissions and waste production through the continuous recycling of manufacturing scraps. The company’s commitment also emerges through the ongoing search for new solutions, such as the adoption of certified dyes used in the cosmetics industry that respect skin sensitivity.

Furthermore, the long-standing collaboration between Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia and Politecnico di Milano that over time has led to continuous exchange on shared topics, such as textile innovation and unconventional applications of the yarn. All this, combined with the growing presence of large companies committed to modifying materials, production chains, and final products focused on environmental well-being, provides an important opportunity to reflect on the contemporary environmental and social challenges and how technology can improve and transform the architecture and spaces in which we live.
