Interview 4Sustainability

Lorenzo Piacentini, CEO of Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, is interviewed by Francesca Rulli of 4Sustainability: the company with which we are proud to have collaborated for years on our path towards sustainability.

We often talk about sustainability in reference to the environment, aware however that the social and human dimension is the real lever to complete the transition towards full sustainability.

The human part of sustainability is often overshadowed, actually. Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia made the human component a medal of honor. From the very beginning, in 1850, the model was based on welfare: hospitality, education, care. Our strategy is based on being rooted in the territory, having a cultural identity at the base of the path towards sustainability and inclusiveness. 55% of the workers are female, all workers are hired locally and they follow a training course. This is the result of a culture based on daily gesture of caring towards people. This culture is also aiming to build some key projects: I recall the initiative in collaboration with the Scientific Institute of Pavia to ensure health and ergonomics in the maintenance department, through training courses and physiotherapy.

Attention to the health of workers is a great example of a sustainable and responsible vision. In fact, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia is able to demonstrate real sustainability performance. What’s the best way for a Company to support the transition path that the present invites us to take?

Our Company is a link in a supply chain which the end customer is the recipient of. The customer’s need is product knowledge, which translates into global and clear traceability. This is the responsibility of the Company. Having a verticalized zero-kilometer supply chain is a concrete answer. It’s necessary to control processes, suppliers and raw materials. Tracing is the first step on a roadmap to be truly sustainable.

We, as a Company, have also set up a sustainability committee that brings together chemical, IT and legal skills. A team to ensure sustainability, a value to answer for to the our customer.
